Skin care for overweight people – understand the skin and give it what it needs
Skin care for overweight people – understand the skin and give it what it needs
I have written this article for those of you who live with excess weight and experience skin problems. You will get an explanation of what is happening in the skin – and what you can specifically do to help it.
When the body changes, so does the skin. Both rapid weight gain and sustained weight gain put the skin's structure and functions under pressure. This is not a question of the wrong body – but of physiological changes that the skin must adapt to.
At Raz Skincare, we recognize that all bodies deserve healthy skin. With natural, well-documented ingredients, we help skin return to balance – without shame, without compromise.
What happens to the skin when weight increases?
The structure of the skin is complex: it consists of several layers, with the outermost layer – the epidermis – acting as the body's first and most important defense against the environment. During rapid weight gain or prolonged obesity, the skin becomes stretched, which challenges both its mechanical integrity and barrier function.
When the skin expands, the collagen fibers and elastin in the middle layer (dermis) are strained. This often leads to stretch marks (striae distensae), reduced elasticity and microtrauma in the tissue. At the same time, the natural lipid structure in the stratum corneum – the outermost layer of the skin – is disrupted, weakening the skin’s ability to retain moisture and protect against external influences. This is called a compromised skin barrier.
The consequence is increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which makes the skin dry, irritated and more vulnerable. Mild inflammatory reactions, itching and small wounds occur – especially in skin folds, where heat and moisture create ideal growth conditions for bacteria and yeasts.
When the barrier is weakened, the skin also becomes more sensitive to UV rays. The sun's light penetrates more easily and causes DNA damage in the skin's living cells. This increases the risk of UV-induced inflammation, pigment changes and, in the worst case, precursors to skin cancer – especially when the skin is also dry or irritated.
That's why it's important to think holistically: Not just about aesthetics and comfort, but about the skin's physiological needs and its ability to repair itself. A targeted skincare routine that strengthens the skin barrier, reduces inflammation and protects against sun damage makes a noticeable difference – both now and in the long term.
At Raz Skincare, we have 20 years of proven results in helping skin. We work with proven effective active ingredients to improve skin. We combine 20 years of expertise with scientific innovation to create real results that your skin needs. Not because it is wrong, but because it – like everyone else – deserves care and protection.
Typical skin challenges of being overweight – and how Raz Skincare can help
The face – sensitive skin and the need for sun protection when overweight
When the body changes, the skin does too – and this is especially true of the face. People who are overweight often have a combination of an oily T-zone and dry, tight cheeks and jaw. Many experience redness, rosacea-like reactions and small blemishes. Behind this lies low-grade inflammation, hormonal changes, increased sweat production and a barrier that no longer provides optimal protection.
At the same time, there is a higher incidence of eczema and irritation on the face. When the skin is already stressed, it becomes much more sensitive to UV radiation. A weakened barrier allows the sun to penetrate deeper, increasing the risk of worsening redness, pigment spots and lasting damage.
That's why daily sun protection is not just a recommendation - it's a necessity. At Raz Skincare, we have developed Invisible Face Fluid Sunscreens ( SPF30 and SPF50+ ) , which are formulated precisely for this type of skin: sensitive, unbalanced, with an increased risk of acne, rosacea and eczema.
They don't sting – not even when you sweat – don't clog pores, and don't melt or transfer onto clothing. The sunscreens are so mild that they don't aggravate rosacea, acne or eczema, and they penetrate quickly without leaving a greasy residue. That's why they're ideal for daily use – even under makeup and during periods when the skin is extra challenged.
If you experience irritations or problems with your facial skin, you can definitely find articles about your topic here on my website. Just search around. On my website you will also find the opportunity to book a personal skin analysis with me, online or in person.
I mention Invisible Face Fluid Sunscreen in this section because it is so important for people with stressed skin. But if you tend to have an oily T-zone, a product like my Hydra Balancing Face Gel is also something you should look into.
BODY
1. Stretch marks and reduced elasticity
Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched faster than it can adjust. This leaves reddish-purple streaks in the dermis that fade over time. Although stretch marks are not dangerous, they are a sign that the skin has been under significant pressure.
During the day, E-Vitamin is recommended – pure tocopherol, which protects the skin's structure, reduces oxidative stress and strengthens the barrier. At night, A-Retinoid is applied, which contains a stabilized form of vitamin A. It stimulates cell renewal and collagen production in depth and is documented to be effective against reduced elasticity. Use with caution – especially for sensitive skin – and start gradually.
The combination of antioxidant and retinoid allows the skin to repair itself and reduce the visibility of stretch marks.
There is currently no scientific evidence that stretch marks can be removed with cosmetics, but you still send me beautiful before and after pictures after the above treatment.
2. Skin folds and friction (Intertrigo)
Skin folds under the stomach, breasts, arms and thighs are exposed to constant friction, heat and moisture. This causes irritation, redness and, in the worst case, infections. The condition is called intertrigo and is very common in people who are overweight.
Start with Powder to Mousse 50g – a gentle cleanser that removes bacteria, sweat and dirt without disturbing the skin's balance, while the minerals will bring the skin back into balance. Then apply Repair Salve 100 ml, which forms a protective barrier with lanolin, thistle oil and vitamin E. In hot periods, the salve can be used several times a day as preventive care. It protects, soothes and rebuilds.
3. Fungal infections and odor in skin folds
Moist skin folds create ideal conditions for yeast and bacteria. This can lead to itching, burning, redness and an unpleasant odor. When the skin cannot breathe and moisture remains, the problem worsens.
Effective care in these areas requires a targeted approach: the skin must be cleansed without drying out, the microbiome must be balanced and fungal growth inhibited, while the barrier is restored – without sealing the skin in a humid environment.
Start with Powder to Mousse 50g. That gently cleanses and removes fungus and bacteria. On cleansed skin, apply Mdh 30 ml – a light and antibacterial emulsion with salicylic acid, lactic acid and Viola Tricolor. It regulates pH and microbiome, without clogging or sealing the skin. At night, use Repair Salve 100 ml, which protects and strengthens the skin during recovery. The routine supports both healing and prevention.
4. Eczema and atopic inflammation
Eczema is more common in people who are overweight. Friction, heat and immunological stress create dry, cracked and itchy skin. The skin becomes permeable and vulnerable to external influences.
Ai ( Anti-Irritation) 300ml soothes and strengthens the skin with willow extract and seawater minerals. Apply morning and evening to areas with redness. Follow up with Repair Salve 100ml on the most exposed areas. The combination reduces itching, strengthens the barrier and reduces inflammation. Suitable for both outbreaks and prevention.
After 3 days, any eczema should be gone, otherwise please contact me on IG or book a consultation with me.
5. Folliculitis and heat rash
Small red bumps around hair follicles – especially on the thighs, buttocks and back – are caused by heat, sweat and friction. The condition worsens if bacteria enter the hair follicles.
Cleanse with Powder to Mousse 50g. Apply Ai ( Anti-Irritation) 300ml to reduce redness and heat. Finish with Repair Salve 100ml in the evening – especially if the skin is irritated or scratched. This combination reduces inflammation and protects against new outbreaks.
In severe cases, it may also be necessary to administerMdh , but start with the above.
